(Warning this post contains subject matter not appropriate for children)
Recently, I’ve had this question come up in my thinking again and again. So this post is an attempt on my part to try to get some answers on this question. Hopefully, someone who reads this post can give me an answer to this question. I will readily admit that often times it seems that when God was passing out brains, I misunderstood what He was saying and I thought He said “trains”, so I asked Him for a very slow one that won’t jump the track. Anyone who knows me personally will readily agree with this. That’s why I need help with this particular question.
As always, we are assuming that all who read this are born again Christians. So what better group of people to bring a question to than those who have the mind of Christ? I am very serious when I say I really want to hear from other members of the body of Christ what their thoughts are in regards to this question.
This question was prompted by the words of JESUS. In Luke 16:19-31 JESUS said, “There was a certain rich man…” There are some who say this is just a parable. If that is the case, then why did JESUS say “THERE WAS A CERTAIN RICH MAN…”? That is a statement of fact. Now in verse 20 JESUS said, “But there was a certain beggar named Lazarus…” We’re not going to go into great detail but there are some interesting things revolving around this incident. Verse 22 says that the beggar died and was carried by the Angels to where Abraham was. Not going to get into a big theological discussion about Abraham’s bosom, Hades, the pit or anything else. The important thing is Abraham was dead. That’s fairly obvious. This means that Abraham would have had to of died AFTER the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. And make no mistake God did destroy those 2 cities plus a number of other ones on the plain. He gave them plenty of time to stop doing what they were doing. One of the things they were guilty of was gang raping men and young boys to death. Now you probably haven’t heard that from anybody. But if you will spend the time to study the passage in Genesis 18:20-21, God said I have come down because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great. Now you are going to have to spend some time in a Hebrew/English Bible to find this out. But when you think about it, what did they want to do to the Angels? They wanted to gang rape them. The entire city wanted to gang rape them. We are not talking about consensual sex here. Remember, and this is a very important point, all the inhabitants of those cities died BEFORE Abraham did.
Just to make sure you understand exactly where I’m coming from, I’m coming from a New Testament viewpoint. Here’s what I mean by that. In 1 Corinthians 6:9-10, Galatians 5:19-21, and Revelation 21:8 there is a list of activities that if a person “practices” these things, they are going to Hell. That’s not my opinion, it’s God’s. If you have a problem with that, take it up with Him. He wrote the book. I just read it. But I wanted to make sure that you, the reader, know exactly know where I’m coming from. When you read this list you will know, beyond a shadow of a doubt, just exactly where I’m coming from. (By the way, you can’t expect people who are filled with darkness to live like Christians. Well you can, but good luck with that. Of course they are going to practice these things. It’s in their nature. That’s why they need to have a new nature. That’s why they need to be born again.)
So, let’s go back to Hell and make a few observations. Since we know for a fact that the inhabitants of Sodom & Gomorrah were there in the place of torment (you know flames, no water, pain, things of that nature), and since we know that JESUS definitely would have known that they were there because they died before Abraham did, why did JESUS make mention of the rich man and no one else?
You see that’s the question that keeps coming up in my mind. Out of all the people who were definitely there, cold blooded murderers, tyrants, sadists, child molesters, child killers, cannibals, people who like to have sex with animals and people who sacrificed their own children to demonic gods (not the kind of people you want to hang with), why did JESUS mention ONLY the rich man? Just him. Out of all the other people there, JESUS mentioned him specifically. Again, why ONLY the rich man?
Now if you, the reader, can answer this question for me hopefully you can answer another question that’s also been bugging me. Here’s the other question, why don’t we hear any of our famous Christian leaders condemn “greed” and the “love of money” with the same anger that they express towards those who don’t come up to their moral standards? They’re quick to pronounce judgment and damnation on those they perceive to be evil. Yet when it comes to rich people they are strangely silent. Maybe, and this is something JESUS said, the reason they don’t is because it would be a case of “removing the beam from your own eye before you remove the splinter from your neighbors eye.”?
As I said earlier, I really, really want to hear from other members of the body of Christ on this question.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this and the time to reply.
