One of the main problems with the church in America today, is the Old Testament idea that somehow men are spiritually superior to women. And it is definitely Old Testament theology. It is a theology that was embraced by a “spiritually dead” people. We always have to remember that under the old covenant (Old Testament) everyone, with the exception of Adam, Eve and Jesus, were “spiritually dead”. Unfortunately this religious idea is still being embraced and proclaimed by supposedly New Testament ministers.
Let me make one thing perfectly clear, I AM A MAN. And by that declaration, just to clarify, I am a born again, baptized in water and baptized with the Holy Spirit (power of God) New Testament man who has been married for 30 years. I’ve also held leadership positions in various Christian ministries. Another thing, I daily try to conform my life to the words of the New Testament. I’m going to show you just a small part of what the Word of God has to say on the subject.
What we need to do is look at the Word of God starting with Genesis. In Genesis 1:26-28 God (meaning God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit) said, “Let US make man in OUR image according to OUR likeness and let THEM HAVE DOMINION over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps upon the earth. So God created man (humans) in His own image, in the image of God He created him (humans). Male and female He created THEM. Then God blessed THEM and God said to THEM, “Be fruitful and multiply, fill the earth and subdue it. Have DOMINION over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” In other words, anyone in Jesus, male or female, has dominion over “all the creeps”.
Genesis 2 gives us more details of what occurred. In verse 18 the Lord God said, “It is not good that man should be alone; I will make him a helper COMPARABLE (equal to in all things) to him.” Verse 20 says that there was not a helper comparable (or equal to) him (Adam). Verse 21 says that the Lord God administered a very powerful anesthesia (LOL) and performed surgery on Adam. The Lord God then took a rib from Adam’s side to create the woman. Notice He did not take it from the head of Adam so that Eve would rule over Adam. Neither did He take it from Adam’s foot so that Adam would rule over Eve. This whole “submission thing” came into existence after the fall. It was not God’s original intent. This submission idea is a “religious” idea. ISLAM IS FILLED WITH IT AS ARE ALL THE SO CALLED “GREAT” RELIGIONS OF THE WORLD.
It should be fairly obvious that God’s original intention was for both male and female to have equal authority over all matters. NOT that one partner should always acquiesce to the other partner’s judgment.
In the book of Judges chapters 4&5, God chose a WOMAN named Deborah to be His judge & prophetess (the one who spoke His mind verbally) on all matters pertaining to His people. What this basically means is that He chose HER to tell everyone, male and female, what His opinion was on any given subject.
One of the biggest differences between “religion” and “relationship” is that religion seeks have to one rule over the other. Relationship says both are truly equal in all things. Allow us to show you what the New Testament says. In Matthew 22:23-30, Mark 12:18-25 & Luke 20:27-35, Jesus said this in response to the Sadducees question in regards to whom would a woman be married to in the resurrection. What Jesus was basically saying was there is neither male nor female when it comes to the things of God. This same idea is repeated in Matthew 19:4-6, Mark 10:6-8, Acts 17:28-29 & Galatians 3:28. In Galatians 3:28 it says, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is NEITHER MALE NOR FEMALE; for you are all ONE in Christ Jesus.” 1 Corinthians 11:11-12 says, “Nevertheless, NEITHER is man independent of woman, NOR woman independent of man, IN THE LORD. For as woman came from man, even so man also comes through woman; but all things are from God.”
In the book of Acts 2:16-19 Peter (you know, the “first Pope”) quoted Joel 2:28-32. Here’s what Peter (you know, the “first Pope”) says in Acts 2:16-19, “But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God, that I will pour out of My Spirit on ALL FLESH; your sons and YOUR DAUGHTERS shall prophesy, your young men shall see visions, your old men shall dream dreams. And on My menservants and on MY MAIDSERVANTS I will pour out My Spirit in those days; and THEY shall prophesy. I will show wonders in heaven above and signs in the earth beneath: blood and fire and vapor of smoke.” According to these passages Almighty God says that He will use both equally to proclaim His Word and then He will back up what they say with wonders following. Apparently, according to many, God doesn’t know the difference between men and women. Either God contradicts Himself, which would mean the Bible contradicts itself, or many of His ministers don’t know what they are talking about. Which one do you think it is?
I was born again 32 years ago as of this writing. Over the years I have seen many godly Christian women and their children put through all kinds of hardships because they “trusted” that their husbands would spend time in prayer and get the mind of God on any given situation. Based upon 32 years of being around Christian married couples, I’m not a big believer in this. True confession time; more often than not, when I exerted my “Christian male authority” card, the result were “less than pleasing”. I’m just saying if you are relying upon ANYONE ELSE to hear from God better than you can, I’m afraid you’re headed for some rough waters.
Now you, dear fellow servant in Christ, are free to believe or not believe whatever you want to believe or not believe. If you want to believe that you need some type of “spiritual covering” (which sounds suspiciously like “shepherding”), you can believe that. If you believe that your life is incomplete without a man, you’re free to believe that. This belief happens to be an effect of the curse that came into the earth (see Genesis 3:16c). But you might want to consider this; there are millions of single Moms raising their children without any help from a man. Do you really believe that God ignores them because they don’t have a man as their “spiritual covering”? If you do, then I really don’t understand your concept of New Testament teaching in regards to men and women.
Hopefully you will spend time in prayer and seeking the New Testament in order to change your thinking on this subject. But if you want someone else, apart from the Lord Jesus Christ, to show you God’s will for your life, hey, it’s your life. You and your kids are the ones who could possibly suffer for it. Hopefully the Lord is speaking to you in your heart to show you the truth on this subject.
I endeavor to be brutally honest on this blog. Admittedly I am a human. There are some subjects, that are “SUPPOSED” to be backed up by the Bible, and this subject is one of them. If you would have walked in my shoes for over 30 years and seen the confusion, the fear and the pain that this disinformation on this subject has caused, you would understand what I really would like to say. What I would really like to say is this, “I don’t give a “painted baboons behind” whether you agree with me or not”, but I’m not going to say that. That wouldn’t be nice. Truthful, but not nice.
I could be wrong on this subject. After all, when God looked at Adam He said to Himself, I can do better. LOL. Actually what He basically said, This creation of mine needs 100% of all that I am. So that means I must pour all that I am into mankind, and Adam is only 50% of the way towards perfection.
Do you really believe that God favors one gender over another? And if so, why is that? We would really love to hear any dissenting viewpoints on this subject.
