Is God in Control

Is God in Control

That is a great question. I’m sure all of us throughout our lifetime have heard some Christian somewhere say, ”God is in control.” Let’s see what Jesus said.

Matthew 4:8-10 “Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him ALL THE KINGDOMS OF THE WORLD AND THEIR GLORY. And he said to Him, “All these things I will give you if you will fall down and worship me.” Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you Satan! You can’t give me control of all the kingdoms of the world, because they belong to my Father.”

Is that really what Jesus said? I mean if Jesus, who always spoke the truth, would have made that statement then we would have to believe that God is in control of the world. But Jesus didn’t make that statement. Jesus never challenged what the devil said with religious misinformation. No, Jesus said, “Away with you Satan! For it is written you shall worship the Lord your God and Him only you shall serve.”

Money Root of Evil

Then Matthew 6:9-10 Jesus said this, “In this manner, therefore pray: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. YOUR WILL BE DONE ON EARTH as it is IN HEAVEN.”

Now, if God’s will is automatically carried out on the earth, Jesus is telling us to pray a useless prayer. We would be wasting our time to pray that God’s will to be done if it’s automatically done. Does that make sense?

If God’s will is for people to be sick, then doctors are the biggest sinners in the world. As a matter of fact, it was a doctor who wrote two books of the New Testament because God told him to. The beloved physician, Luke.

go to doctor

In John 14:30 Jesus said this, “I will no longer talk much with you, for THE RULER OF THIS WORLD is coming, and he has nothing in me.” According to Jesus, Satan is the ruler of this world, not God.

Acts 10:38 says, “How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were OPPRESSED BY THE DEVIL, for God was with Him.” If God is in control, then Jesus violated God’s will by healing all who were oppressed by the devil.

Now, either God can’t make up His mind whether He wants us sick or healed, OR we have been given A LOT OF RELIGIOUS MISINFORMATION.

II Corinthians 4:3-4 says “But even if our gospel is veiled (hidden), it is veiled (hidden) to those who are perishing (dying), whose minds THE GOD OF THIS AGE (WORLD) has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.”

Ephesians 2:2 says “In which you once walked according to THE COURSE OF THIS WORLD, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience”

Ephesians 6:12 says, “For we do not wrestle (fight) against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against THE RULERS OF THE DARKNESS OF THIS AGE (WORLD), against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.”

It’s fairly obvious to see from these scriptures that God our Father (meaning the Father of all who are born again), is not in control of the world.

This idea has been around for thousands of years. You see it in one form or another in most major religions. It is based on this idea that you are not in control of your life. The gods are, or Allah, or Mother Nature, or FATE. If I don’t know God’s will how can I possibly pray effectively? And by effectively I mean to get what I pray for. Why don’t I just flip a coin, heads I get the job, tails I don’t. And then when I don’t get the job I just throw up my hands and walk away sighing, crying and blaming God. It wasn’t His will. What kind of a parent wants their kid to be unemployed? I mean the whole idea behind getting an education (which isn’t cheap), was so the kid would become a responsible, tax paying member of society and move out of your basement. Don’t tell me it’s God’s will for them to be living down there! Up at all hours of the night! Eating everything in sight! And would it kill them to clean a dish now and then?

god answers prayer

But seriously, if you don’t know what God’s will is, your life is going to go from one tragedy to another. And I’m sure you noticed by now life isn’t fair. But as a member of the family of God it is God’s will for you to get what you pray for and to be an overcomer in every situation. And we know it’s God’s will for you to be an overcomer in this life. How do we know that? Jesus said in John 10:10 “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I HAVE COME THAT THEY MAY HAVE LIFE, AND THAT THEY MAY HAVE IT MORE ABUNDANTLY.”

Thank God for the New Testament. It tells us exactly about Jesus. Anytime you find yourself wondering what God’s will is, just read about Jesus. You’ll see it.

We realize that this is not the predominate thought in Christianity today. If you disagree with our conclusions, please tell us why you disagree. Why do you believe God is in control?

  1. Cincinnati Christian,

When I was very young (14), my father passed away from cancer of the colon which had spread throughout his body. At 14 I was not a Christian and really had a hard time understanding why God allowed my Dad to die. To make matters even more confusing, he was a Christian, Asst Pastor of a local church, Bible Teacher at the church and loved by everyone, saint and sinner. So when I was told God took my Dad, I was really confused. Then I got the religious baloney. Here’s the best one, “Well, you and your sisters are going to do something that he just couldn’t handle, so he took him to heaven.” WHAT!? Well, if that doesn’t make a child feel guilty, I don’t know what would! So God decided he needed my Dad more than my Mom who now had 3 children to raise on her own (youngest was 7) with no job (Dad provided for family so Mom could raise us)? The church he was Asst. Pastor almost closed. The people loved his manner of teaching. He also helped many people with personal problems. The Pastor was much older and his age was a slight hindrance in relating to their problems.

It was many years later (after I was Born Again) that I realized the people that said all these horrible things were snookered (is that a word?) by Satan. If you yell GOD loud enough every time you do something to kill, steal and destroy, soon if you don’t know any better, you will believe it is God. Once you find out it’s Satan and staff, you start analyzing things that happen a little more closely according to the Word of God. When you realize that this world was given to Satan by Adam and Eve (thanks) it changes your perspective on who is doing what. But God made a way for us to defeat the enemy here on earth, his name is Jesus. So now we have a sword, if you will, to swing and defeat the enemy. We just have to keep in mind (renew your mind with the Word) that just because something yells GOD real loud, doesn’t mean it’s God.

Then we have the “take responsibility” angle of “is God in control”. Many times I knew my car needed repair (let’s say a strange noise). I kept ignoring it. Next thing I knew, the car is broke down on the side of the road, in the rain (of course). Well, of course it’s God’s fault because He could have warned me. Wait, maybe He did every time I heard that “strange” noise and I said, “Yep, I should get that checked.” So who’s to blame? Sounds like I was warned (usually repeatedly).

Back to my Dad’s situation; My mother many years later, told me that my Dad for over a year had problems going to the bathroom. I hope that’s not TMI. It’s one of the symptoms of Colon Cancer. He was terrified of doctors. So for over a year he knew something was wrong, wouldn’t listen to Mom and finally went to the doctor after it was too late to do anything. So who’s to blame? You could say my Dad. But Kill, Steal and Destroy comes from Satan. Not God. There were warning signs that were ignored.

I get really hopping mad when I hear my Heavenly Father get blamed for things that you know, know, know are Satan but Satan yells God loud enough and He gets blamed.

Thank you for posting this. I haven’t told many people about my Dad because when I tried to explain to someone Satan killed my Dad, they thought I was saying he wasn’t a Christian. Not what I was saying at all. Dad and our family, we were just snookered by Satan. Not anymore!
